Those who are soldiers of the temple are of God.
History of the Rosary
The common people could not sing any of the 150 monastic psalms by heart; Just like the monks did. To simplify this, the Rosary was prayed.
First, the Lord’s Prayer was prayed 150 times. Later in the Middle Ages, when the devotion to Mary was on the rise, the Hail Mary prayer was prayed 150 times.
The Dominican Alanus de Rupe shaped the rosary as we know it today through his preaching.
In 2002, Pope John Paul II added the Luminous Mysteries.
October is the month of the Rosary.
After the victory over the Islamic Ottoman Empire, at the battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1571, Pope Pius V set October 7 as the official holiday of the rosary. The Battle of Lepanto was a naval battle of the Christian Holy League and the Ottomans. This Holy Christian League was on the initiative of Pope Pius V and dissolved shortly after his death.
The Holy League included the Papal States, the Spanish-Habsburg kingdoms, Naples and Sicily, the republics of Venice and Genoa, the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, Duchy of Savoy. Parama and Urbino and the Order of Malta.
Winning this naval battle is attributed to the praying of the rosary by both the soldiers and the people.
Rosary = if the rosary is completed in 1 go, then it has a rosary. At each small bead the Hail Mary is prayed and at a large bead the Lord’s Prayer.
The name hat comes from the wreath -or hat- of 12 stars around her head, which she received after she was crowned in Heaven. Mary as a symbol, bride of Christ.
Rosary = When we pray 3 rosaries in a row
What is the difference between praying a rosary and praying the rosary?
When you pray the prayer bead once, you have prayed a rosary. This consists of the sign of the cross, the profession of faith, 3 Hail Marys and 5 decades of each an Our Father, 10 Hail Marys and the Glory be to the Father. With every decade you can meditate on a mystery of the rosary. You close with the sign of the cross.
To pray the rosary, go around the prayer bead 4 times. You will have meditated on all 20 mysteries of the Rosary.

The angel Gabriel brings the Good News to Mary
In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to the city of Nazareth in Galilee, to a girl who had been married off to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The girl’s name was Maria. Gabriel went into her house and said, “Greetings Mary, you are favored, the Lord is with you.” She was shocked when she heard his words and wondered what that greeting meant. But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, God has given you his favor. Listen, you will conceive and give birth to a son, and you must name him Jesus. He will become a great man and be called Son of the Most High, and God the Lord will give him the throne of David his father. He will be king over the people of Jacob forever, and there will be no end to his kingdom.
Mary asked the angel, “How will that happen? After all, I’ve never had intercourse with a man.’ The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will cover you like a shadow. Therefore, the child that is born will be called holy and Son of God. Listen, your family member Elisabet is also pregnant with a son, despite her advanced age. She is now, even though she was thought to be barren, in the sixth month of her pregnancy, for nothing is impossible for God.” Mary said, “I will serve the Lord: let it be done to me as you have said.” Then the angel left her alone again. (Luke 1:26-38)

Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth
Shortly thereafter, Mary traveled in great haste to the mountainous country, to a city in Judah, where she entered the house of Zacharias and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the child jumped up in her womb; she was filled with the Holy Spirit and cried out loudly: ‘You are the most blessed of all women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! Who am I that the mother of my Lord should come to me? When I heard your greeting, the child leaped for joy in my womb. Happy is she who has believed that the words of the Lord will be fulfilled.
Mary said, “My soul praises and praises the Lord,
my heart rejoices in God, my Savior:
He had an eye for me, his least servant.
All generations will henceforth call me happy,
yes, the mighty one has done great things for me,
Holy is his name.
Merciful is he, from generation to generation,
for all those who worship him.
He shows his power and the strength of his arm
and scatters those who think themselves exalted, he overthrows rulers from their thrones
and he gives prestige to the lowly.
He showers the hungry with gifts,
But he sends the rich away empty-handed.
He is concerned about the fate of Israel, his servant,
As He promised to our ancestors:
He remembers his mercy
to Abraham and his descendants,
forever.
Maria stayed with her for about three months, and then went back home. (Luke 1:39-56)

Jesus is born in a stable in Bethlehem
At that time, Emperor Augustus promulgated a decree that all inhabitants of the empire had to register. This first census took place during Quirinius’ reign over Syria. Everyone went on their way to be registered, each to the place where he came from. Joseph went from the city of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, since he was descended from David, to register with Mary, his wife-to-be, who was pregnant. While they were there, the day of her delivery arrived, and she gave birth to a son, her firstborn. She wrapped him in a cloth and put him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the city’s night quarters.
Not far from there, shepherds spent the night in the field, keeping watch over their flocks. Suddenly an angel of the Lord stood by them and they were surrounded by the radiant light of the Lord, so that they were greatly frightened. The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for I have come to bring you good news that will fill all the people with great joy: today your savior has been born in the city of David. He is the messiah, the Lord. This will be the sign for you: you will find a newborn child wrapped in a cloth in a manger.” And suddenly a great heavenly army joined the angel, praising God, saying:
“Glory to God in the Highest Heaven
and peace on earth to all the people he loves.
When the angels had gone back to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let us go to Bethlehem to see with our own eyes what has happened and what the Lord has made known to us.’ They immediately set out, and found Mary and Joseph and the child lying in the manger. When they saw the child, they told them what they had been told about that child. All who heard were astonished at what the shepherds said to them, but Mary kept all these words in her heart and continued to think about them. (Luke 2:1-19)

Jesus is dedicated to God in the temple
When the time came for them to be declared clean according to the law of Moses, they brought him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord as prescribed by the law of the Lord: “Every firstborn son shall be consecrated unto the Lord.” They also wanted to make the sacrifice that the law of the Lord prescribes: a pair of turtledoves or two young common pigeons.
At that time there lived in Jerusalem a certain Simeon. He was a righteous and pious man, who looked forward to the time when God would give comfort to Israel, and the Holy Spirit rested upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die until he had seen the Lord’s messiah. Moved by the Spirit, he came to the temple, and when Jesus’ parents brought their child there to do with him what is customary according to the law, he took him in his arms and praised God, saying:
“Now let you, Lord, your servant depart in peace,
as you promised.
Because I have seen the salvation with my own eyes
which you have brought before all nations:
a light revealed to the Gentiles
and that is to the glory of Israel, your people.’
His father and mother were amazed at what was said about him. Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother: “Know well that many in Israel will fall or rise because of him. He will be a sign that is disputed, and you yourselves will be pierced as by a sword. In this way the disposition of many will be revealed.’ (Luke 2,22-35)

Jesus is found in the temple
His parents went to Jerusalem every year for the Passover feast. When he was twelve years old, they made their usual pilgrimage again. After the feast, they left for home, but Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem without his parents knowing. Thinking he was with the traveling party, they traveled for a whole day before they began to look for him everywhere among their relatives and acquaintances. When they did not find him, they returned to Jerusalem to look for him there. After three days, they found him in the temple, where he sat among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. All who heard him were amazed by his insight and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were horrified, and his mother said to him, “Child, what have you done to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with fear in our hearts.’ But he said to them, ‘Why have you been looking for me? Did you not know that I had to be in my Father’s house?” But they didn’t understand what he was saying to them. He journeyed with them back to Nazareth and henceforth obeyed them. His mother took everything that had happened to him to her heart. Jesus continued to grow and his wisdom increased. He came more and more into favor with God and men. (Luke 2:41-52)
Shining Mysteries 1
The 5 mysteries of light were only added in 2002 by Pope John Paul II. In the Apostolic Letter ‘Rosarium Virginis Mariae’, Pope John Paul II explains that Christ is the center and origin of the Rosary. Christ is the light of the world, and that is why these 5 life events of Christ are included in the Rosary.
Jesus is baptized in the Jordan River
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to stop him, saying, “You should baptize me, and then you will come to me?” Jesus replied: “Let it be done now, for it is good that we should fulfill God’s righteousness in this way.” Then Johannes agreed. As soon as Jesus was baptized and came up out of the water, heaven opened up to him and he saw the Spirit of God descend upon him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: ‘This is my beloved Son, in him I am well pleased.’ (Matthew 3,13-17)
Luminous Mysteries 2
The Wedding of Cana
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana, in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. When the wine was almost finished, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.” “What do you want from me?” said Jesus. ‘My time has not come yet.’ Then his mother spoke to the servants: ‘Do what he tells you, whatever it is.’ Now there were six stone water barrels for the Jewish purification ritual, each with a capacity of two to three meters. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the vessels with water.” They filled them to the brim. Then he said: ‘Now scoop something out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.’ They did. And when the master of ceremonies tasted the water that had become wine, he did not know where it came from, but the servants who had scooped the water knew, he called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone puts the good wine before his guests, and when they are drunk the less good ones. But you have kept the best wine so far.” This is what Jesus did in Cana, in Galilee, as the first sign; He showed his greatness and his disciples believed in him. (John 2,1-11)

The Transfiguration of Jesus on Mount Tabor
About eight days after he had said this, he went up the mountain with Peter, John, and James to pray. While he was praying, the appearance of his face changed and his clothes turned radiant white. Suddenly two men were talking to him: they were Moses and Elijah, who had appeared in heavenly splendor. They talked about the end of his life that he would have to complete in Jerusalem. Peter and the two others had fallen into a deep sleep; when they awoke, they saw the splendor that surrounded Jesus and the two men standing by him. As the men were about to move away from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here, let us pitch three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah,” but he did not know what he was saying. While he was still speaking, a cloud came drifting and cast a shadow over them; They became frightened when the cloud enveloped them. A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, my chosen one, listen to him!” When the voice was silenced, Jesus was alone again. They kept silent about the incident and did not tell anyone what they had seen at the time. (Luke 9,28-36)
Shining Mysteries 5
The Institution of the Eucharist
When the time came, he sat down with the apostles for dinner. He said to them: “I have longed to eat this Passover meal with you before the time of my passion comes. For I say to you, I will not eat a Passover meal again until it has found its fulfillment in the kingdom of God.” He took a cup, said the prayer of thanksgiving and said: ‘Take this cup and pass it to one another. For I say to you, from now on I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” And he took a loaf of bread, gave thanks, broke the bread, distributed it, and said, “This is my body that is given for you. Do this, again and again, to remember me.’ So after the meal he also took the cup and said: ‘This cup, which is poured out for you, is the new covenant that is made by my blood. (Luke 22:14-20)

The Agony of Jesus
He departed and went to the Mount of Olives according to his custom. The disciples followed him. When he arrived, he said to them, “Pray that you may not come into temptation.” And he walked away from them, about a stone’s throw away, and then knelt down to pray. He prayed, “Father, if you will, take this cup away from me. But do not let what I want, but what you want to happen.’ An angel appeared to him from heaven to give him strength. He was overcome with agony, but continued to pray; His sweat fell to the ground like blood in large drops. When he got up after his prayer and walked back to the disciples, he saw that they had fallen asleep in grief, and he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Stand up and pray that you do not come into temptation.” (Luke 22:39-46)
Sad Mysteries 2
Jesus is scourged
Meanwhile, the chief priests and the elders persuaded the people: they had to ask for Barabbas, and have Jesus killed. Again the prefect spoke and asked again: ‘Which of the two do you want me to release?’ “Barabbas!” they shouted. Pilate asked them, “What shall I do with Jesus, who is called the Messiah?” All answered, “On the cross with him!” He asked: ‘What has he done wrong?’ But they only shouted louder: ‘On the cross with him!’ When Pilate saw that his intervention was going nowhere, that, on the contrary, it looked as if they were going to revolt, he had water brought, washed his hands in front of the crowd, and said: “I am innocent of this man’s death. Just try to solve it yourself.’ And all the people answered, “Let his blood be imputed to us, and to our children.” Pilate then released Barabbas, but he handed Jesus over to be crucified, having first had him scourged. (Matthew 27,20-26)
Sad Mysteries 3
Jesus is Crowned with Thorns
The prefect’s soldiers took Jesus to the Praetorium and gathered the entire cohort around him. They stripped him naked, and put a scarlet cloak on him, and braided a crown of thorn-branches, and put it on his head. They gave him a reed in his right hand and fell on his knees before him. They said mockingly, “Hail, King of the Jews,” and spat on him, took the reed from him again, and struck him on the head. After thus mocking him, they stripped him of the robe, put his clothes back on him, and led him away to crucify him. (Matthew 27:27-31).
Sad Mysteries 4
Jesus carries his cross to Golgotha
When Jesus was led away, the soldiers stopped a certain Simon of Cyrene, who was just entering the city. They put the cross on his back and had him carry it behind Jesus. A large crowd followed Jesus, as did some women who beat their breasts and lamented over him. But Jesus turned to them and said: “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me. Rather weep for yourself and your children, for know that the time will come when people will say, “Blessed is the barren, blessed is the womb that did not give birth and the breast that did not suckle a child.” Then people will say to the mountains, “Fall down on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!” For if this happens to the young wood, what will not await the withered wood?” Along with Jesus, two others, both criminals, were led away to be executed. (Luke 23,26-32)

5 Jesus Dies on the Cross
At the cross of Jesus stood his mother with her sister, Mary, the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. When Jesus saw his mother standing there, and with her the disciple whom he loved very much, he said to his mother, “This is your son,” and then to the disciple, “This is your mother.” From that moment on, that student took her into his home.
Then Jesus knew that all was accomplished, and to fully fulfill the Scriptures he said: “I am thirsty.” There was a barrel of sour wine there; They put a marjoram branch with a sponge in it and brought it to his mouth. After Jesus had drunk of it, he said: ‘It is finished.’ He bowed his head and gave up the ghost. (John 19,25-30)
The Resurrection of Jesus from the Dead
with the fragrant oil they had prepared. However, when they arrived at the tomb, they saw that the stone in front of the tomb had been rolled away, and when they went inside, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. This made them very upset. Suddenly, two men in radiant robes stood by them. They were overcome with fear and put their hands over their eyes. The men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here; he has been raised from the dead. Remember what he told you when he was still in Galilee: the Son of Man was to be handed over to sinners and was to be crucified and rose again on the third day.” Then they remembered his words.
They returned from the grave and went to tell the elf and all the others what had happened. The women who visited the tomb were Mary Magdala, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and a few other women who accompanied them. They told the apostles what had happened, but they thought it was just nonsense and did not believe them. But Peter got up and ran to the tomb. He bent down to look, but only saw the linen cloths. Then he went back, amazed at what had happened. (Luke 24,1-12)

The Ascension of Jesus
Those who had gathered together asked him, “Lord, are you going to restore the kingship over Israel in the foreseeable future?” He answered: “It is not your business to know what the Father has determined in his power about the time and time when these events will take place. But when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will receive power and bear witness to me in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, to the ends of the earth.” When he had said this, he was lifted up before their eyes and taken up in a cloud, so that they could no longer see him. As he was moving away from them and they were still staring at heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. They said, “Galileans, why are you looking up into the heavens? Jesus, who was taken up from among you into heaven, will come again in the same way as you saw him go to heaven.” (Acts 1:6-11)
Glorious Mysteries 3
The Holy Spirit descends on the apostles
Then the apostles returned from the Mount of Olives to Jerusalem. This mountain is located near the city, a Sabbath journey away. When they arrived in the city, they went to the upper room where they were staying: Peter and John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alpheus, and Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James. Fervent and unanimous, they devoted themselves to prayer, together with the women and with Mary, the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.
When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together. Suddenly there was a sound from heaven like that of a violent gust of wind, which completely filled the house where they were. A kind of flames appeared to them, which spread like tongues of fire and settled on each one of them, and all were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in a loud voice in foreign tongues, as they were inspired by the Spirit. (Acts 1:12-14 and 2:1-4)
