Manna

Those who are soldiers of the temple are of God.

Manna

Close-up of dozens of small, transparent spheres scattered on a wet, sandy surface. Introducing manna,

What is manna?

Manna is that wonderful bread from heaven with which God fed the Israelites in the desert, when they wandered around forty years after the exodus from Egypt. Every morning it lay on the ground like dew, fresh, enough for one day—except on the Sabbath, when they got a double portion of it the day before (Exodus 16).

It was:

Food from heaven
given daily, give us this day our daily bread
Don’t hoard
and just enough for everyone

The symbolism of manna

God’s providence
spiritual food (especially the Word of God)
· Trusting in God: Every Day

· Dependency: no hoarding, no control

· Harbinger of the Bread of Life: Jesus says in John 6, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.”

· Hidden Manna (Revelation 2:17): A Mystical Picture of Spiritual Nourishment for Overcomers

and even a prefiguration of the Eucharist

So when I say I’m giving you manna with your daily piece, I mean, just enough spiritual nourishment for the day. Not too much, not too little. Just… what you need that day. And tomorrow there will be a new portion ready.

What does manna actually look like?
The Bible gives several descriptions, especially in Exodus and Numbers:

· Exodus 16:14 – “When the dew had risen, there was something fine on the desert ground, something fine, grainy, fine as frost on the earth.”

· Exodus 16:31 – “The house of Israel called it manna. It was white like coriander seed, and it tasted like honey cake.”

· Numbers 11:7-8 – “The manna resembled coriander seeds, and it was the color of bdellium (a resinous, pearl-like material). They collected it, ground it or mashed it, boiled it in a pot and made cakes out of it. It tasted like something prepared with oil.”

👉 So concretely:

· Color: white or pearlescent

· Shape: granular, like seed

· Taste: honeyed, or oily biscuit-like

· Usage: could be ground, boiled, baked

· Daily fresh: what you left, rotten

· From God Himself: Pure Grace, Pure Provision

· Double given on the Sabbath

· Undoable through human work

So: it was literally heavenly food.

Soul food. Heavenly provision. Faith in tangible form.

Biblical scene of manna from heaven: Moses raises his hands while Israelites gather the descending manna in the desert.
"Painting of an elderly Templar sitting praying over a table with bread, a drinking bowl and a large book with a cross."

Manna in the Lord’s Prayer

“Give us this day our daily bread.”

These words sound familiar. But did you know that they mean much more than just food?

The “bread” Jesus speaks of is also spiritual food—just like the manna that God gave daily to the people of Israel in the wilderness. No stock, no certainty for tomorrow, only confidence: enough today.

Thus, this prayer not only asks for nourishment for our body,
but about daily soul food: strength, wisdom, peace, hope.
Just enough for today. No more, no less.

Sweet memory

As a child, we used to like manna su-perrrrr. Nowadays it is old-fashioned candy again, such as candy wood and sugar chunks. Manna is puffed rice in all kinds of colors.

What piece of manna did you receive today? And do you dare to trust that there will be enough tomorrow?…….
