The Order of the Templars was founded in 1118 in Jerusalem by Hugh de Payns, Godfrey of Saint-Omer and seven other knights. The Order bears the official name:

ORDO PAUPERUM COMMILITONIM CHRISTI TEMPLIQUE SALOMINICI

Translated into English: The Order of the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon, commonly known as the Templars. Their period of greatest prominence lies between 1118 and 1312.
In 1312, Pope Clement V dissolved the Order during the Council of Vienne. After the execution of Grand Master Jacques de Molay in 1314, the original Order disappeared as an independent organisation.

Claim of descent
We make no claim to an unbroken historical descent from the medieval Order of the Temple. As stated above, that Order was dissolved in 1312. This means that no present-day Templar order can demonstrate an unbroken continuity from the medieval Order.

Main
We move forward to this millennium: in 2019, a Dutch Templar order was founded. A Dutch House, as it is called. On 2 November 2020, it joined the Main.
The Main is a Scandinavian parent Order, founded in February 2005: The Black Knights Templars of Solomon, with its headquarters in Eslöv, Sweden. It has seats in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Germany and, since 2 November 2020, the Netherlands.

The former Dutch House separated from the Main again on 20 March 2021 and dissolved almost immediately afterwards. A select group made a “new start” on 21 March 2021 and remained under the Main. The present Order: De Nederlandse Tempeliers (The Dutch Templars).

Present day
At present, we are modest in number.
Because we strive to be truthful and, as far as possible, to live according to the example of our medieval Templar Brothers, you will not find claims with us that simply cannot be true. Nor do we favour excessive outward display. We use ceremonial clothing and symbolism when their function or the occasion calls for it. In other words, we are sober in our approach.
Do what is right, even when no one is watching; few people today can truly identify with that. Especially in a time when self-glorification and admiration are often central.

What we stand for
Within De Nederlandse Tempeliers, the following are central:

• faith and devotion to God
• reverence for the medieval Templars and their true history
• brotherhood and loyalty to one another
• discipline and inner formation
• truth and historical accuracy
• service to others

We live by the example of our medieval Brothers of the Order of the Temple of Solomon, as far as this is reasonably possible in the world of 2026. We try to remain as close as possible to the spirit, values and way of life of the Templars. That is precisely why we attach such importance to historical accuracy and truthfulness.

Our activities
Focus on two things: showing people the way to God and presenting a true picture of our medieval Templar Brothers. That is also the purpose of this website.
Outside this website, we do this in the following ways:

We put our service into practice in various ways. We help at events such as the Hanzefeesten in Doesburg, the Niervaert Procession, the Bloemencorso in Zundert and activities at Sint Catharinadal.
Throughout the year, clothing is also collected for Romania. Twice a year it is transported there by truck and distributed among people in Piatra Neamț in north-eastern Romania.
We also support the organ activities in the Onze Lieve Vrouwe Church in Breda in a broad sense.

Each year we take part in the Maria Ommegang in Bergen op Zoom. A magnificent large procession with as many as 1,000 participants.

You may also meet us at annual events we attend, such as Cannenburgh, Montfort, Bouillon, Heilig Bloed in Hoogstraten and D’Avalleur in France.

Future
At present, our commandery is being established.
We also aim to participate in events as an Order.
We will continue working on the website so that we can make this knowledge available to as many people as possible.
We also hope to expand our service to others even further.
