Francheville

Visit of Guillaume Poitrinal, President of the Foundation, and Alexandre Giuglaris, General Director, at the Cher: Templar Chapel of Francheville in Brécy, Avions des 4A and Church of Avord

Take part in the restoration of the Templar Chapel of Francheville in Brécy in Cher, founded in 1249 and preserve the rural religious heritage of the Hautes Terres du Berry.

The Knights Templar created the Commandery of Francheville in 1249 and built a chapel dedicated to Saint-Jean Baptiste, a stately home and agricultural buildings. In 1288 there were seven Knights Templar. After the dissolution of the Order of the Temple in 1312 and the transfer of their properties to the Knights Hospitaller, Francheville became part of the Commandery of Jussy-le-Chaudrier and became nothing more than an estate with seigniory rights, chapel, census and annuities. By the 15th century, the manor house had disappeared, and a new house was rebuilt. The chapel was confiscated and sold as national property after the French Revolution. She was then used as a stable and then as a barn before being abandoned for about 30 years.
