We are a Templar order in the Netherlands. We are the Dutch branch of the Order The Black Knights Templars of Solomon. We belong to the Scandinavian Order, also known as “the Main,” which also includes Sweden (headquarters), Norway, Denmark and Germany. Establishment<\/strong><\/p>

The Order of the Poor Knights of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon (the Knights Templar) originated in Jerusalem around 1118<\/strong>.
The core was formed by Hugues de Payns<\/strong> and Godfrey of Saint-Omer<\/strong>, together with seven fellow knights: Andr\u00e9 de Montbard, Payen de Montdidier, Archambaud de Saint-Aignan, Geoffroy Bisol, Rossal Roral, Gondemare and Hugues Rigaud.<\/strong><\/p>

Their task was to protect pilgrims<\/strong> on the roads to the holy places.<\/p>

In 1129<\/strong>, the Order received ecclesiastical recognition at the Council of Troyes<\/strong>.
There the foundation was laid for the Rule of the Knights Templar<\/strong>, strongly influenced by Bernard of Clairvaux<\/strong>.

    Our goal is to live according to the example of our medieval Brothers. To honor and pass on their rich history and legacy, as purely as possible within the time we live in.

    Being a Templar is far from romantic and certainly not a costume club. The Knights Templar spent most of their lives in prayer and discipline, and only rarely on the battlefield.

    It requires discipline, an inner attitude, and the willingness to face truth \u2014 even when that truth is uncomfortable. This sometimes means setting aside the ego.

    Our values and norms are inspired by the historic Knights Templar of the Middle Ages, who lived under vows of devotion, simplicity, and service. These are described in the 72 rules of the Knights Templar, written under the influence of Bernard of Clairvaux:

    Today it is no longer possible to live exactly as our Brothers did in the Middle Ages. The spiritual, social, and legal world in which they existed has changed.
    What remains possible today are the values and principles.

    We live them personally and voluntarily, adapted to the time in which we live, without claim to power or status.
    Not everyone is called to walk this path.
    But we gladly support and guide those who feel called to live closer to God, as far as our possibilities allow.

    With this intention we hope to establish Commanderij OUD BREDA in the coming years.

    We are a Christian order.
    We do not follow any political movement.
