crusade to be led by the church and not by lay people. He therefore sent Ademar of Monteil, bishop of Le Pug. He was the Papal legate during the First Crusade. (1095 \u2013 1099). A legate is someone chosen by the Pope to act on his behalf in certain matters. He was often sent to negotiate a treaty, resolve a dispute, and even crown a king if the pope himself could not do so in person. Ademar of Monteil, bishop of Le Puy. Ademaro was an old-school bishop and could ride a horse and wear armor. During the crusade, Ademar showed his military capabilities several times. Pope Urban even wanted Ademar to become the patriarch of Jerusalem. Perhaps this is the underlying reason that Godfrey did not want to become king of Jerusalem?          <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-51a234e elementor-section-content-middle elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"51a234e\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-89df05e\" data-id=\"89df05e\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3aa36fe elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3aa36fe\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>At that time, all armies were accompanied by priests and, perhaps because it was the Pope who had wanted the existence of the Crusader army, he limited himself to making the priest available for the expedition as well. The title of apostolic legate and the personal qualities of Bishop Ademaro de Monteil earned him the trust and respect of the Crusaders.
