What is manna?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Manna is that wonderful bread from heaven with which God fed the Israelites in the desert, when they wandered around forty years after the exodus from Egypt. Every morning it lay on the ground like dew, fresh, enough for one day\u2014except on the Sabbath, when they got a double portion of it the day before (Exodus 16). <\/p>

It was:<\/p>

Food from heaven
given daily, give us this day our daily bread
Don’t hoard
and just enough for everyone<\/p>

The symbolism of manna<\/strong><\/p>

God’s providence
spiritual food (especially the Word of God)
\u00b7 Trusting in God: Every Day<\/p>

\u00b7 Dependency: no hoarding, no control<\/p>

\u00b7 Harbinger of the Bread of Life: Jesus says in John 6, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.”<\/p>

and even a prefiguration of the Eucharist <\/p>

So when I say I’m giving you manna with your daily piece, I mean, just enough spiritual nourishment for the day. Not too much, not too little. Just… what you need that day. And tomorrow there will be a new portion ready. <\/p>

What does manna actually look like?
The Bible gives several descriptions, especially in Exodus and Numbers:<\/p>

\u00b7 Exodus 16:14<\/strong> \u2013 “When the dew had risen, there was something fine on the desert ground, something fine, grainy, fine as frost on the earth.”<\/p>

\u00b7 Exodus 16:31<\/strong> \u2013 “The house of Israel called it manna. It was white like coriander seed, and it tasted like honey cake.”<\/p>

\u00b7 Numbers 11:7-8<\/strong> \u2013 “The manna resembled coriander seeds, and it was the color of bdellium (a resinous, pearl-like material). They collected it, ground it or mashed it, boiled it in a pot and made cakes out of it. It tasted like something prepared with oil.”<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u00b7 Usage: could be ground, boiled, baked<\/p>

\u00b7 Daily fresh: what you left, rotten<\/p>

\u00b7 From God Himself: Pure Grace, Pure Provision<\/p>

\u00b7 Double given on the Sabbath<\/p>

\u00b7 Undoable through human work<\/p>

So: it was literally heavenly food.<\/p>

Manna in the Lord’s Prayer<\/strong><\/p>

“Give us this day our daily bread.”<\/p>

These words sound familiar. But did you know that they mean much more than just food? <\/p>

The “bread” Jesus speaks of is also spiritual food\u2014just like the manna that God gave daily to the people of Israel in the wilderness. No stock, no certainty for tomorrow, only confidence: enough today. <\/p>

Thus, this prayer not only asks for nourishment for our body,
but about daily soul food: strength, wisdom, peace, hope.
Just enough for today. No more, no less. <\/p>

Sweet memory<\/p>

As a child, we used to like manna su-perrrrr. Nowadays it is old-fashioned candy again, such as candy wood and sugar chunks.
