<\/strong>\u00e4r en bef\u00e4st milit\u00e4r struktur f\u00f6r att f\u00f6rsvara mot fiendens attacker. En f\u00e4stning ligger precis utanf\u00f6r staden, helst p\u00e5 en kulle, f\u00f6r en bra utsikt \u00f6ver omr\u00e5det. I en f\u00e4stning finns bara soldater.  <\/p><p>En <strong>f\u00e4stning <\/strong>\u00e4r ett annat ord f\u00f6r f\u00e4stning. De betyder b\u00e5da samma sak. <\/p><p>En <strong>citadel<\/strong> \u00e4r en stor f\u00e4stning. Citadel kommer fr\u00e5n franskan citadelle, som i sin tur kommer fr\u00e5n italienska cittadella. Det \u00e4r en diminutiv f\u00f6r citta = stad.  <\/p><p>En f\u00e4stning och en citadell var f\u00f6rst och fr\u00e4mst en tillflyktsort fr\u00e5n yttre attacker. I det andra fallet var det f\u00f6r att h\u00e5lla medborgarna under kontroll vid upplopp. <\/p><p>Ett <strong>slott <\/strong>\u00e4r ocks\u00e5 en bef\u00e4st byggnad, men har ocks\u00e5 en bostadsfunktion f\u00f6r de rika. Slott kommer fr\u00e5n det latinska ordet castellum. <\/p><p>Ett <strong>palats<\/strong> \u00e4r d\u00e4r en regerande prins eller biskop bor. Slottens huvudsakliga funktion \u00e4r att f\u00f6rsvara och mindre som en lyx. Ett palats \u00e4r tv\u00e4rtom. Palats \u00e4r f\u00f6rst och fr\u00e4mst hem f\u00f6r kungar och drottningar. Med andra ord, mer av en kontorsbyggnad att styra fr\u00e5n.    <\/p><p>Ett <strong>slott<\/strong> \u00e4r ett bef\u00e4st hus, ocks\u00e5 f\u00f6r att skydda mot attacker utifr\u00e5n. Burcht kommer fr\u00e5n det tyska ordet Burg, som betyder bef\u00e4st bos\u00e4ttning. Skyddet \u00e4r vanligtvis en dubbel stenmur. Med en kanal emellan, eventuellt med en klaffbro. Det finns torn i ytterv\u00e4ggarna som fungerar som utsiktsplats och skydd. Slott \u00e4r mindre lyxiga \u00e4n slott. Det var inte f\u00f6rr\u00e4n p\u00e5 1400-talet<sup>,<\/sup> n\u00e4r f\u00f6rsvaret blev allt mindre n\u00f6dv\u00e4ndigt och lyx blev viktigt f\u00f6r prestige, som man b\u00f6rjade kalla slott f\u00f6r slott. Ju mer lyx det fanns, s\u00e5som balsalar, g\u00e4strum, bostadskvarter, innerg\u00e5rdar, vackert anlagda tr\u00e4dg\u00e5rdar, desto mer prestige, status och makt hade man.       <\/p><p>Ett <strong>slott <\/strong>\u00e4r ett annat ord f\u00f6r slott. De betyder b\u00e5da samma sak. <\/p><p>En <strong>bastion <\/strong>\u00e4r en del av en f\u00e4stning<strong>. <\/strong>Det \u00e4r en utskjutande del av ytterv\u00e4ggen\/f\u00f6rsvarsmuren. Gjorda av jord eller sten.
